Using Blackboard

You must know your Lehman Alpha username.
If you do not, go to the Help Desk in the Computer Center with your CUNY Card, and get your username for the Lehman Alpha e-mail server -- you use the same username for Blackboard. Or get your username from your instructor (see below).

Location of the Help Desk:
Go into the turquoise part of Carman Hall, using the stairs on the east side where the playing fields are.  Enter the Open Area, first door on the left.  The Help Desk is on the left.
Handicapped students need an elevator key to use the lift from the basement of  Carman Hall, in the middle of the east corridor.  This goes up one floor. Turn right, then right again into the Open Area.
Access Blackboard: go online. go to http://acc10.lehman.cuny.edu

On the Login Dialog: you must log in twice:

type your username, exactly as given -- on the Web, there is a difference between upper and lower case letters. (This usually consists of the first four letters of your last name, the first letter of your first name, and some digits.)

press Tab -- do not press Enter
type your password: no caps no spaces
first letter of your first name
first letter of your last name
your date of birth: six digits in the mmddyy format -- month, day, year-two numbers for each

example: name is Jane Doe, birthday is February 13, 1985 -- password: jd021385

now press Enter or click OK. Repeat the above.

If there is a problem with the login, try again, twice -- in case you made a mistake. If there is still a problem, try upper case for your password initials.  Repeat. If this does not work, go to the Help Desk.

Now select your course on the right side of the screen: click it.

Now, please click Tools, Personal Information: Edit Personal Information to supply your correct e-mail address. And click Change Password to change your password if you like, with a combination of letters and digits, with the letters being case sensitive (there is a difference between uppercaseand lowercase, e.g., E and e) -- but if you do change your password, write it down in a safe place, or you might get locked out if you forget it. Finally, click the Submit button.

Then explore this software package. Click Announcements. Click Course Information. Click Course Documents. Click Assignments, etc.
You can create a personal web site, with information about yourself and a picture, and a personal calendar etc.
You can send e-mail or files to your instructor, or to classmates. Please note that the e-mail is to be read in your own e-mail package.
You can use the Discussion Board to post or reply to questions and messages, voluntarily or assigned, and to share just discovered web sites and other materials.
You can use the Virtual Classroom (chat room): it may be assigned for a day and time or you can agree on a day and time with classmates; all messages should relate to the course -- no 'how are you doing'.

AT THE END OF YOUR SESSION, DO NOT FORGET TO LOG OUT!
